Birmingham to Harwich After saying (an admittingly emotional [and mostly from me]) goodbye to my boyfriend, I got back to my home from Coventry at 1 am! Myself and my family packed up our bags and began the joyous 3-and-a-half-hour drive to Harwich at 4 am… best to say I was tired! We arrived on time for our 9 am departure.

Sail away!
Once all booked in, we looked forward to the 7 hour boat ride and took in the surroundings of sea…sea…Sealand…sea…wind turbines…and the odd boat. With time to spare looking around the boat went quickly and the only entertainment on board to us would be my family trying to pronounce and slaughter the Dutch language; and also…
…The wind.
Hoek van Holland
Once in Hoek Van Holland, it was 5pm and still had an hour to get to our hotel room by Schiphol Airport. I must admit as a British driver and driving on the opposite side of the road would have confused me. I’m still very surprised my Dad managed to do this…although he did drive down a tram line, but hey we had a British Reg-plate, people can tell we’re foreign!
Amsterdam
On a fresh Saturday morning and with my Family not been ever been to Amsterdam before, we went the typically scenic route. You could hear gasps with how fascinated they were with the number of bikes in the centre an even the unspoken rules of the biker always have the right of way. Eventually stumbling on to De Wallen which was funny to watch as my mum cringed at the sights of the working ladies. Towards the end of the day, we went over to the eye museum and looked out at Amsterdam Centraal Station having been here with my boyfriend on our last day in Amsterdam, I feel very connected with this view in the Noord.
Accommodation
Before coming to Amsterdam, finding a room was the most difficult thing I have ever had to do in my life no theatrics there. But low and behold I managed to get a viewing of a room at 2pm we found our way surprisingly easy with it located in Ouderkerk Aan De Amstel. For me I couldn’t complain about a
room. The family are very nice and welcoming, and the room is of a decent size and most of all it’s a place to rest my head! Also the most easy way to get from A to B quickly is to bike, with metros and trains quite expensive, I quickly picked up a second hand bike!
You better work!
From September, I’m working for a brand called Studio Cosima. Being a small brand,
I work closely with the owner/designer the lovely Larissa! She’s been very kind to me and very helpful during my first week here, but all friendships aside, it is still work! She asked me to investigate her website and figure what she could change/develop. She also asked me to come up with questions for interviews and make use of social media to research into brands whom are influential with potential to contribute to the growth of her website. This was interesting as I have somewhat creative freedom and put my best ideas forward, as I never done this at Uni, I was really excited to get started! I also made use of my location and looked in Amsterdam coffee shops/ businesses who’s interior best suit the brand’s aesthetic. I even had the fun of biking into the centre with Larissa to see where her products are being sold and got to meet the shopkeeper and trader.
